meditation room by Joe Shlabotnik

I was talking with a dear friend of mine and she told me that her partner is going on an ADHD drug, because he can’t seem to focus. She said she thinks she also has ADHD, because she is forgetting things and can’t concentrate. This is such a common thing among not only adults, but also children.

We have so much stimulus around us each day every day.

When you think about some words that describe what life is like today, what comes to mind?

Did you come up with words that reflect a complicated and distracting world?

Life today can be very complex, distracting, fast moving, and stressful especially for parents. If we are feeling that stress, our children also feel it.

Because our society is so fast moving and there are so many distractions, it is imperative that not only adults, but also our children learn one of the most essential life skills: focus

We have to learn how to focus ourselves so we can teach this to our children.

Focus is important so we can live up to our full potential, and create the success we desire.

How do we focus? We first have to pay attention.

The friend I was speaking to was not paying attention and then lost count in what she was doing. She said, “See. I have ADHD.” I asked her, “Where you paying attention in that moment?” She replied, “No.”

It is not that we are ADHD, it is that we need to pay attention. We need to focus and let go of the distractions.

Paying full attention and being present is the key to getting focused.
