Think about it. In every moment of every day, you’re asking the Universe for a happier life.
- After every frustrating experience, you ask for greater contentment and ease.
- Every relationship that disappoints you causes you to ask for a deeper experience of love.
- And every time you acknowledge that you don’t have enough of something, you are asking the Universe for more.
To be alive is to exist in a constant state of desire – which is to say, a constant state of asking. Preferences about what is wanted and unwanted just erupt out of you, whether you’re aware of them or not.
And because we live in a universe that is responsive and participatory, your asking is always received.
So, if you’re asking (and you are), and the Universe is listening (and it is), then what’s the missing piece? Why are you not wildly happy in literally every aspect of your life?
Turns out, the results you get have everything to do with the mindset you’re in when you’re asking.
The Law of Attraction
We live in an energy-based universe. This means we attract into our lives experiences that are aligned with the frequency of the energy we’re sending out.
You are literally an energy tower that is sending out signals all day, every day.
You send out these signals by:
- the thoughts you think (even privately to yourself)
- the beliefs and perspectives you hold (whether you’re aware of them or not)
- the emotions you feel (including those you try not to feel)
- the words you use (even silently to yourself), and
- the actions you take
All of these are transmissions of energy that you are sending out into the Universe. And, thanks to the boomerang of Law of Attraction, the quality of energy you send out is what comes back.
If you’re asking the Universe for a happier life, and feel your request is going unanswered, here’s what to do:
#1: Examine your mindset
When you’re asking for something from a mindset of lack, the Law of Attraction cannot bring you abundance. It can only bring you more evidence of lack because that is the energy you are sending out.
The same goes if you are asking from an attitude of need. The more in need of something you feel you are, the more neediness you will attract.
To attract the happiness you desire, you must cultivate a mindset of positive expectation. In other words, you must be in a state of joyful anticipation that what you have asked for is on its way.
Now, it’s not always easy to feel positive about something you don’t yet have, but it is always possible. You simply need to get your mind moving in the right direction.
- What do you already feel happy about?
- What could you choose to feel happy about?
- In general, what types of experiences bring you happiness?
- What memories from your past or thoughts about the future evoke happiness?
The more thoughts of happiness you send out, the more experiences of happiness the Universe will provide. It does not matter if these thoughts are about the past, present or future. The Universe responds to the vibration you are offering right now.
So, when you’re asking the Universe for a happier life, begin by cultivating a mindset of a positive, happy expectation.
#2: Clarify your intentions
What does happiness really mean to you, right now, at this particular time in your life? Without even realizing it, you may be walking around with outdated notions about happiness.
For example, you might still be equating happiness with gaining the acceptance of others. You may believe you’ll be happy once your house is finally organized or the bills are finally paid.
Until we clarify our ideas about what “happy” really means, the Universe cannot respond to us clearly.
Take some time to add some color and dimension to what happiness means to you. Is it more laughter? More clarity? Lightheartedness? Do you equate happiness with greater freedom or prosperity?
Vague questions elicit vague answers. Clarify your intentions about what you’re really seeking, and you’ll attract a clearer experience of that from the Universe.
#3: Feel the outcome as if it’s already come about
Remember that the Universe is responding only to your energy. Yes, your thoughts and words transmit energy. And yes, so do your actions. But the most powerful energetic signal you can send out is sent through the transmission of your emotions.
Allow yourself to really experience – in your belly and in every fiber of your being – what happiness feels like. Actively seek out happy adults, children, aAll Postsnd animals, and soak up that energy wherever you find it. Watch only uplifting, happy movies and avoid those that elicit fear or despair.
It can be helpful to imagine Happiness as a particular station on your car’s radio dial. Of course, there are hundreds of others to choose from – Fear, Panic, Boredom, Anger, Loneliness…. But you can choose, by the power of your focus, which station you tune into. Sift through the static around you, and consciously tune yourself to the frequencies of happy, joyful, and lighthearted.
Remember, you’re always asking the Universe for more of what you want. Vibrate in the frequency of happiness, and a happier life is what the Universe will provide.
