When you feel stuck in a soul-sucking job, that low-level energy can easily spill over into other areas of your life. And, at first glance, it certainly seems like the solution is to simply jump ship, and find a more ideal working environment. After all, if your coworkers were more competent, or your customers were more pleasant, you’d surely feel happier, right?
But here’s the rub: Unless you find a way to shine brightly and excel in your current job, your next one likely won’t be any better. Why? Because the energy you bring to any environment determines the quality of your experience while there.
Here are 3 energy mastery practices that can help you find freedom in a soul-sucking job, while moving toward your ideal career.
Energy Mastery Practice #1: Acknowledge that because you are the one who experiences your job as soul-sucking, you are the one whose perception needs to shift.
While it’s certainly easy to blame our emotions on other people, doing so only casts us in the role of victim. It’s far more powerful to accept that, whatever the environment or situation, our energy imbalance is occurring within us. And because we are in control of our own energy flow, we alone have the ability to restore our experience of freedom.
Consider for a moment that your soul-sucking job is like a gravitational force weighing down your naturally buoyant energy field. And now, take this a step further and recognize that the downward pull is not coming from an external source at all. In fact, it’s made up of all the experiences, conclusions, and stories you have come to believe to be true. Each of these thoughts transmits an energy, and this energy – and not the job itself – is what’s bringing you down.
The habitual way you think and feel about your career creates a momentum of vibration. And when you perceive your job is a soul-sucking place to be, that momentum is a downward spiral.
By repeating the same thoughts, perceptions, and moods day in and day out, deep grooves are formed within the brain’s neural pathways. The more practiced you become in these habits of thought and perception, the easier they are to perpetuate. And unless you disrupt this momentum and replace it with a different one, it will continue.
To transition from your soul-sucking job and toward your ideal career, you’ll have to overcome the drag of this gravitational force. To do this, you simply need to master your power of focus. Begin giving more attention to the reality you desire than to the reality you are presently living.
Energy Mastery Practice #2: Shift your primary focus from the “problem” to the solution
Most of us have been conditioned to scan for problems; not to be available for solutions. But actively railing against what’s wrong with a situation blinds you to alternatives that may be right in front of you.
We simply cannot dwell on any current problem and simultaneously attract its solution. We have to make a choice: Focus on where we are now, or where we want to go. Give the majority of our attention to conditions that we find soul-sucking, or focus on the ideal career we desire.
The bad feelings you harbor about your soul-sucking job are primarily the result of your perception. Everything, in fact, is based on our perception. Nothing is simply “the way it is.” Every molecule that is called into being is activated by the attention of you, the observer. If you focus on what’s missing or not turning out well, you simply perpetuate that experience. But if you focus all there is to appreciate about you and your life, you start a whole new point of attraction.
To transition from problem to solution – and from your soul-sucking job to a more ideal career – make a list of positive aspects.
What new skills or talents do you now possess as a result of the experience of working in this job? What clarity do you now have about the ideal career you’d like to move toward? Are there other benefits – such as enjoying greater financial security or making new friends – that have come out of the experience? Make a list of all the ways your current job has evolved, benefited, or supported you. And read this list often.
Remember, your present circumstances are merely a jumping-off point for all that is in the process of unfolding. You can improve your mood – and your effectiveness – by focusing forward. Look beyond what currently is, and toward the reality that is in the process of coming into being.
Energy Mastery Practice #3: Invite the mood, emotion and energy of your ideal career into your life.
How would you feel if you were already working in your ideal career? Or if you had successfully risen above the soul-sucking nature of your present job? Would you feel a sense of freedom? Or accomplishment? Would you feel proud of yourself for mastering your own focus?
Chances are, there are plenty of things you would do – and things you would definitely not do – if you were already living in this desired reality. The key to creating your ideal career is to begin inviting those thoughts, feelings, and actions into your life, now.
Most of the world is reacting to life and allowing the conditions that surround them to influence their behavior. But you can choose to stop being someone who needs positive conditions to justify feeling positive!
You can decide instead to be someone who’s clear about what you desire, and allow the energy of that desire to guide you.
Imagine the energies of freedom, expansion, ease, connection, and wellbeing pouring from your divine source into you. Feel this frequency entering and uplifting every aspect of your being. Revel in the understanding that your energy field affects everyone and everything around you, and look for evidence of your upgraded point of attraction.
